SandyBay prevails in two-shot nailbiter

IN a game that went down to the wire, Sandy Bay defeated Buckingham in Bowls Tasmania South’s Division One Pennant on Thursday.

Peri Buckley outclassed Janet Rutherford with a resounding 24-shot win and in doing so set up the overall win for Sandy Bay. June Guy had a convincing 20-shot win for Buckingham against Laura Best. The final game was a close tussle and the overall result came down to the last end. With Sandy Bay only one shot up and Buckingham holding four shots, Sandy Bay’s Pat Balcombe drew a resting toucher. The rink held on to this shot to give Sandy Bay a two-shotwinove­rall.

Buckingham’ s Jeanette Lane finished two shots in front despite giving away eight shots in the first five ends.

Brighton travelled to Sorell and came away with a convincing 33- shot win. June Head lam easily defeated Monica Lovell by 31 shots and Kaye Sproule beat Shirley Hay by three shots. Jan Cow an defeated Judy Williams by one shot to secure two penn ant points for Sorell.

Or ford played at DoverRSL and ran out 23-shot winners. Jenny Martyn started slowly against Sheryl Phillips trailing by seven after eight ends but stormed home to win by 19.

Carol Bannister had a close game against Sharon Delaney winning by five shots. Dawn Garland played some excellent skips bowls to defeat Sonia Martyn by two shots to secure DoverRSL’ sonl yr ink win.

Rosny Park continued its sparkling start to the season with a 15-shot win over Kingboroug­h, while Claremont overcame Howrah by 16 shots.
