YOUNG RIDERS INSPIRE VISITING SHREDDER

QUEENSLAND racer Katie L awl or, who previously missed out on a mountain bike World Championsh­ip due to injury, has said visiting the only dedicated female mountain rider group in Australia was as inspiring for her as it was for the youngsters.

The down hill mountain biker paid a visit to Dirt Girls and the Shredding Betties at Me eh an near Morning ton to help the girls face their fears and test new techniques.

Twelve-year-old Millie Lin dun said she learned a jump from Ms L awl or she had never done before.

“She was really inspiring and she showed us tricks ,” she said.

Millie said it felt great to “just put on a helmet and go down a hill”.

Dirt Girl founder Jan Menzies said more girls were hit those moves when I was 12.”

Ms L awl or said the girls all pushed each other to trust themselves and feel positive about their riding.

And she said she couldn’ t get enough of the “unreal” Derby tracks during her first visit to Tasmania.

“I just spent the last six days riding Derby. I felt myself becoming a more confident and positive rider in that time ,” she said. taking up the sport and were “stoked” to meet Ms L awl or.

Ms L awl or said even in the three years since her accident, the sport has evolved to better support women from beginner to profession­al levels.

“I think everyone should be given the opportunit­y to do something like that ,” she said .“There’ s a fantastic network( in Tasmania) for those girls to progress.
