Grand finish to triples deciders
Lane trio clinch title
BUCKINGHAM’S Jeanette Lane, Christine Thompson and Cindy Gangell were made to work hard to take out the Bowls Tasmania South Women’s Open Triples Championships which concluded at Buckingham last Friday.
Close games were the order of the championships for Lane who won each of the quarterfinal, semi- final and grand final in games that were not decided until the final end and by margins of less than three shots in each game.
Lane won the grand final defeating Rosny Park’s Ailsa Milburn, Di Nieuwhof and Kaye Cole by three shots. In the semi- finals, Lane defeated Glenorchy Rodman’s Rose McCann by two shots while Milburn recorded a good seven- shot win over Claremont’s Meekie Salter.
In the Women’s B Grade Triples, Glenorchy City’s Cheryl Nielsenbeck, Ingrid Makowski, and Gayelene Wilcox defeated St John’s Park’s Marlene Eaton, Margaret Cornish and Pat Williams by five shots.
In the semi- finals, Makowski defeated Glenorchy City’s Marie Gleeson by 13 shots and Eaton beat Brighton’s Louise Cooper by two shots.
IN the Men’s Open Triples Championships which concluded at Kingborough on Sunday, Claremont’s Bick Chilcott, Michael Taylor and Jack Ellis took out the title defeating Kingborough’s Ryan Guy, Jack Butler and Nathan Dinning
In the semi- finals Chilcott defeated Orford’s Chris Martin by 14 shots and Guy beat a combined Buckingham / Glenorchy Rodman father, son and grandson combination skipped by grandson Isaac Maughan by one shot after leading by 11 shots after 14 ends.
In the Men’s B Grade Triples, honours went to Taroona’s Rob Winterbottom, Michael Behrend and John Lahl who easily defeated Buckingham’s Graham Smith, Noel Sargent and Tony Capasso.
Smith won three of the first five ends to lead by two but managed to win only one more end with Winterbottom scoring at ease to win by 25 shots.
In the semi- finals, Winterbottom defeated Brighton’s Ross Mitchelmore by 11 shots and Smith beat Sandy Bay’s Bill Mottershead by nine shots. THE first two rounds of the Bowls Tasmania Junior State Wide Challenge will be held at Longford on Sunday.
The best junior boys and girls bowlers from the south, north and north- west will be pitted against each other in fours, triples, pairs and singles formats.
