TEENS DOMINATE AMATEUR TITLES

TASMANIA’S own Mackenzie Wilson took out the 2020 Women’s Tasmanian Amateur Championsh­ip on Monday at the Mowbray Golf Club.

The 17- year- old Tasmania Golf Club member dominated with scores of 74, 74, 70 and 70, an even- par total of 288 for the 72- hole championsh­ip.

“I was a little nervous going into today, but not very,” she said. “This tournament, it’s all just come together. I didn’t hit it as well as yesterday, but I was steady,” Wilson said.

Wilson is a previous winner of the Tasmanian Junior Masters and the Judy Elphinston­e 54- hole Tournament, but this was the biggest victory for the year 11 Rosny College student.

Sarah Johnstone of Ulverstone Golf Club was runner- up on 298, while Royal Hobart’s Hallie Meaburn was third on 307.

Queensland’s Louis Dobbelaar comfortabl­y won the correspond­ing Men’s Tasmanian Amateur Championsh­ip.

The 19- year- old Brookwater Golf Club member shot rounds 67, 65, 70 and 71 to take out the title at 11- under.

Dobbelaar has previously won two Queensland Amateurs, the New Zealand Amateur and the Port Phillip Amateur in Melbourne making him one of Australia’s best rising male players.

Dobbelaar finished eight shots clear of last year’s winner, another Queensland­er Will Florimo, who carded 71, 66, 70 and 74.

Queensland­er Adam Hawkins ( 2- under) was third.

In the Tasmanian Senior Masters, Royal Hobart’s Lindy Goggin won the women’s section by 13 shots, while Robbie Berne of the Prospect Vale Golf Club won the men’s by seven shots.
