- SHAUN McMANUS

THE Tasmania JackJumpers are seeking expressions of interest in the role of inaugural head coach from the global basketball community ahead of the state’s return to the NBL competition next year.

JackJumpers chief executive Simon Brookhouse, pictured, said earlier this month the club was in discussions with some coaches who were overseas, but was unsure whether they would lead to a signing. The process has now been opened up.

“I don’t think it’s necessarily a shift ( in the recruitment process), we always considered going down the path,” Brookhouse said. id

“However, we did want to assess the market first and see who may be available, and we’ve just made the decision, having now assessed what’s available, that we want to do a full global search to get the best possible candidate ganisation.”

Brookhouse is confident the role will attract plenty of interest. “Having assessed the market, we believe this is a tremendously attractive position for a coach from anywhere around the world, hence we believe it’s important to conduct a thorough global search,” he said. “Australia is a very attractive destination for players and coaches at present. “This is also a great opportunity for the right leader to help build a club and its culture from the beginning for the orand join the JackJumpers this exciting journey.”

Brookhouse said the role of head coach at the new club would be a critical appointment and shape the future for the JackJumpers. “With this in mind, we believe it’s imperative to seek expressions of interest from the global basketball community and take the appropriate time to conduct a proper process,” he said.

The JackJumpers have signed 2200 foundation members, despite the side’s debut still being 11 months away. for
