$500,000 cash offer
Rotary Hobart calls for big ideas to change the city
UP TO $500,000 of funding for the development of a major social infrastructure project is being made available by the Rotary Club of Hobart.
The club is calling for expressions of interest from not-for-profit groups working towards a substantial project that will improve the social fabric of the Hobart community.
Possible projects could include solutions to the city’ s housing problems or community centres that address a need.
“We are completely open to ideas,” said Rotary Club of Hobart president Belinda Jeffries.
“We want the community to think about what is a need and how Rotary can help fulfil that need by donating this money.
“In Rotary’s 96-year history this is the first time that we’ re offered such a large sum. We have not done a project of this size or significance before .”
The pool of money represents more than 10 years of fundraising. Activities have included the building and sale of what is known as Hug House, a 241 sqm home built by Wilson Home sat a reduced cost on land donated by local philanthropists Renzo and Cat rio na D’ Or azio.
Ms Jeffries says the proposed project should be in Hobart, recognise Rotary’ s contribution, best and-alone and have a well-thought out business plan with a sustainable future.
Over the past five years the Rotary Club of Hobart has donated more than $400,000 to local communities.
