Lovell rampant in Sorell victory

SORELL handled the wind and its synthetic green better than Kingboroug­h, winning by 12 shots in Bowls Tasmania South’s Division One Pennant on Thursday.

Monica Lovell was the best player on the green to record an impressive win over Lee Shead. Lovell led by four shots at the lunch break, but powered away after the break to win by 17 shots.

With Karen Scott leading well, Jan Cowen was on top of Vicki Bannister early and led by five shots at the break, but Bannister finished strongly to end just two shots in arrears. Kingboroug­h won on the other rink, with Leonie Price defeating Shirley Hay by seven shots.

Claremont and Dover RSL fought out a nail-biting draw. Joy Voss led Dawn Garland all day to win by four shots. With Jill Brown playing well, Sharon Delaney evened the match for Dover RSL, beating Maree Morgan by four shots.

Meekie Salter and Sheryl Phillips played a thrilling draw. Phillips held a one-shot lead going into the final end, but Gail Hay drew a nice shot for Salter and it stayed throughout the end, enabling Salter to draw.

Sandy Bay beat Brighton by 35 shots. Yvonne Buckley dominated against Judy Williams to record a 17-shot win.

Robyn Leggett played consistent bowls to come away with a 16-shot win over Kaye Sproule. Chris Dowl and Sandra Brown had a close game. Dowl had an eight-shot lead on the 18th end, but Brown cut that back to two shots, giving Sandy Bay a win on all rinks.

Buckingham recorded a hard-fought 14-shot win over Howrah. Janet Rutherford defeated Charon Foster by six shots and June Guy beat Sandra Hawksley by four shots.

Jeanette Lane had a four -shot win over Rosie Geeves. Lane led by six shots after the 17th end, before Geeves rallied to get to within two shots. Lane held her nerve, winning the last two ends to win by four.

Rosny Park was tested at home on a quick green by Orford, eventually winning by 11 shots. Ailsa Milburn converted the head on a number of occasions when down to defeat Carol Bannister by 10 shots, while Gaylene Ridgeway had a narrow two-shot victory over Sonia Martyn.

Orford won on the other rink, with Jenny Martyn beating Jenny Suttie by one shot.
