Vintage Hoffman helps down Brighton in convincing fashion

CREMORNE moved to within grasp of a top- four finish with an impressive 28- shot win over Brighton in Derwent Eye Specialist­s Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

Pat Hoffman turned back the clock with a vintage performanc­e to defeat Michael

Daniels by 19 shots. Leigh Munnings received great support from his team of Peter Marshall, Stephen Lanning and Geoff Jones to account for Greg Fehlberg by 12 shots.

The other two rinks went down to the wire with Brighton winning both. Grant Wakefield defeated Ralph Tieman by two shots and Ricky Limbrick beat Brad Knight by one shot in a closely- fought encounter.

Rosny Park did not have it all its own way in defeating Beltana by 16 shots.

Peter Bannister beat Mick Coppleman by 15 shots and David Genford returned to the winners’ circle in his 11- shot victory over Shane Young.

The closest game of the day saw Steve Midson take a oneshot lead into the final end, only for Connor Munnings to pick up a two on the last end to take a one- shot win. Nic Courto was able to pick up two pennant points for Beltana by defeating Mick Sweeney by 11 shots.

Kingboroug­h had a commanding 53- shot win over Dover RSL. Jarrod Long defeated Brad Carver by 23 shots.

Will Coad dropped a five on the first end but proceeded to win all but five of the remaining ends to beat Roger Dale by 22 shots. Ryan Guy defeated Josh Lording by six shots.

In the closest game of the day, Jason Fowler narrowly defeated Rick Ormerod by two shots. An incredible trail by Fowler on the second last end for five shots was the difference between the two on the day.

Sandy Bay easily accounted for Buckingham, winning by 31 shots. The win was set up by Keghan Booth who defeated Todd Oakley by 23 shots and Andrew Norris finished strongly to defeat Alvin Cooke by 14 shots.

Buckingham won on the other two rinks.
