BEV’S BUSTING FOR BIG BASH ACTION

- JACK EVANS

THE confirmation of a Hobart Big Bash League hub excited sporting fans across the state but none more so than Jacob ( Bev) Bevis.

The Hobart Hurricanes super- fan and Tasmanian social media icon said he was “very excited” when he heard the news after COVID- 19 all but wiped top- tier sport from Tasmania’s calendar.

“We haven’t had much sport here in Tassie at all so to get some first- class sport here, it’s definitely fantastic. I can’t wait for it,” Bev said.

While his beloved ‘ Canes’ keep him busy during the summer, the mad- keen Western Bulldogs fan and horse racing tipster said he loves all things sport – which proved beneficial through the lockdown months.

“When COVID- 19 was relatively new, and everything was sort of shutting down, it was pretty boring – stuck at home with no sport to enjoy. At least the racing went ahead,” he said.

His Facebook page, The Bev Show, boasts almost 43,000 fans of its own – more than the Premier.

Viewers follow the young fanatic for weekly episodes of emphatic celebrations of his teams’ wins, heart- wrenching commiserations after a loss and even horse racing tips.

“I started at the end of 2016. It was just a live show and I’d jump on and talk some sport and I was lucky people tuned in and watched and asked for comment,” he said.

“And then in 2018, when I started uploading my passion for the Hurricanes is when it really started to take off.”

He has caught the eye of Channel 7 and big bookies like Sportsbet who frequently share his online journey to their millions of online followers.

“I want to one day be a sports broadcaster. If I can achieve that, I’ll be living my best life for sure.”
