Bannister draws to perfection

AFTER winning two of its first eight matches, Kingborough is closing on the top four with Thursday’s win over Howrah by 14 shots in Bowls Tasmania South’s Division One Pennant.

Vicki Bannister raced to a 16-shot lead over Rosie Geeves. Bannister played some beautiful draw shots to take the shot or move the jack to a head that had been well set up by her rink of Kerrie Lane, Pauline Connell and Sue Mann.

Geeves managed to pick up shots after the break but Bannister was never in danger, eventually winning by eight.

Leonie Price started well against Charon Foster but dropped eight shots in two ends to trail by five at the break. Foster scored five shots on the 15th end for a six-shot lead but it was the only end she won after the break with Price taking the last six ends to win by four shots. Lee Shead started strongly against Sandra Hawksley and held an eight-shot lead at the break. Hawksley fought back but Shead hung on win by two.

Sorell defeated Orford at home by 27 shots. Vicki Philp did well in leading her rink to a 21-shot win over Jenny Martyn. Monica Lovell led Carol Bannister by eight shots after 11 ends and went on to win by 15. Orford won on the other rink with Sonia Martyn defeating Jan Cowen by nine.

Sandy Bay defeated Rosny Park by 30 shots.

Chris Dowl had 13 on the board before Jennie Suttie won an end and eventually won by 16. Robyn Leggett was nine in front of Ailsa Milburn at the break and went on to a 15-shot win. Rosny Park’s Gaylene Ridgway defeating

Buckingham recorded a 21shot win over Claremont. Jeanette Lane defeated Joy Voss by nine and Janet Rutherford defeated Meekie Salter by the same margin. June Guy had the closest game, finishing three ahead of Maree Morgan.

Dover RSL was too good at home to Brighton, winning by 18 shots. Sheryl Phillips defeated Kaye Sproule by 21 and Dawn Garland beat Judy Williams by 18. Brighton’s Sandra Brown defeated Sharon Delaney by a shot.
