Guilford partners for expo

COVID- 19 has not only created a year filled with uncertainty, but also a future filled with doubt. Reduced employment opportunities and increased competition for jobs has added a whole new set of challenges for school leavers as well as the wider community.

In partnership with the Glenorchy City Council, the Guilford Young College Careers and Community Expo aims to provide an amazing opportunity for students and the general public to engage with employers face- to- face, and to learn more about career and training prospects.

For many years, Guilford Young College has worked hard to initiate strong and meaningful partnerships with industry professionals to create work placement and apprenticeship opportunities for students. The College has achieved tremendous results through these connections and hope to continue doing so in the future.

Principal, Craig Deayton spoke about the importance of the event and its significance in the Glenorchy region.

“Guilford Young College has been a proud and active member of the Glenorchy Community since our foundation in 1994, and since that time, thousands of our students have moved from school to further study, employment and into jobs in our Glenorchy Community and beyond,” he says.

“The Expo will showcase the career, training and service providers in the northern suburbs today while exploring the rapidly changing landscape and energy of our local community. Above all, the Guilford Young College Careers and Community

Expo is about the future and student’s role in shaping it.

“It will provide young people in our community an opportunity to learn about the many options that are available to them both while at school and beyond. It will provide direct contact with employers across many industries, training providers, community organisations and universities.”

Subject to COVID- 19 planning and regulations, this event will be open to the general public on Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Vendors will be selling food and coffee, and there will be prizes and giveaways on offer.

If you know someone who is keen to learn more about how they can initiate the first steps into their future career, bring them along to the Guilford Young College Careers and Community Expo. They will walk away with a greater understanding of the extensive range of job and training options available to them.
