Tasmanian nurses sought for state’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout

- JAMES KITTO

NURSES are being sought to administer Tasmanian COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Department of Health on Wednesday opened expressions of interest for registered nurses interested in joining the state’s COVID vaccination team.

Health Minister Sarah Courtney said more than 270 authorised immunisers across Tasmania had expressed interest in supporting the COVID vaccination rollout and said the latest EOI process follows the federal government’s release of the GP Expression of Interest program released last week.

“It is vital that Tasmania has an appropriately qualified and trained workforce to support the COVID-19 vaccination rollout, and I thank all professionals who have already put their hands up for this crucial program,” she said.

The state government supported the provisional approval of the Pfizer COVID vaccine by the Therapeutic Goods Administration earlier this week, with the vaccination program expected to commence in late February.

Ms Courtney said the state government would begin contacting Tasmanian pharmacists seeking expressions of interest from them to be involved in the vaccination rollout program.

In further restrictions announced yesterday, the state government said theatre venues would be able to apply to increase venue capacity up to 75 per cent above 250 people from February.
