COURTO IN GREAT TOUCH TO LEAD BELTANA TO BIG VICTORY

- ROB MCGUIRE

BELTANA played great bowls to defeat Brighton by 19 shots in the Derwent Eye Specialists Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division on Saturday.

Nick Courto played some fantastic bowls to lead the way for Beltana in his 28-shot win over Mick Daniels, only allowing Daniels to win four ends. Steve Midson withstood a spirited comeback from Ricky Limbrick to win by three shots.

Brighton won on the other two rinks. With Craig White leading well, Grant Wakefield was too strong for Mick Coppleman winning by 11 shots and Greg Fehlberg defeated Shawn Leitch by one shot.

Glenorchy Rodman recorded a nailbiting one-shot win over Rosny Park. With scores level, Josh Baker picked up five shots on the final end to defeat John McKibben by the same margin.

Luke Turner and Connor Munnings were the first to finish and went into the last end all square. Munnings held the shot with Turner having the last bowl. Turner rode his luck, crashing a front bowl onto the jack, which then rebounded off a Rosny Park bowl and settled only just closer to one of his bowls, giving Turner a oneshot win.

Tony Vince led Peter Bannister by three shots going into the final end, but Bannister picked up three shots to draw the game. David Genford was Rosny Park’s only winner defeating Cam Tegg by five shots.

Kingborough had a convincing 26-shot win over Cremorne. Jarod Long was a big winner over Peter Marshall by 22 shots and Ryan Guy accounted for Leigh Munnings by 10 shots.

Cremorne won on the other two rinks.

Pat Hoffman defeated Will Coad by five shots and Brad Knight staged a great comeback against Jason Fowler to win by one shot.

Sandy Bay recorded a hardfought 18-shot win over Dover RSL, while New Norfolk defeated Buckingham by 12 shots.
