SUPERB WAKIM’S TON OF CLASS

- ADAM SMITH

LINDISFARNE skipper Charlie Wakim has continued his domination of the CTPL to help the Lightning take a big step towards earning a shot at defending their two-day premiership.

The Tigers top order star piled on an unbeaten 130 in his side’s big win against Glenorchy at Anzac Park, helping the side sure up third spot on the table.

Starting day two on 15 alongside Mac Wright (81), Wakim was an unstoppable force peeling off 19 boundaries and a pair of sixes in his 147-ball knock.

His second century of the season, which swelled his run tally to 450 at an average of 90, saw Lindisfarne cruise to 3-293 declared in just 54 overs, banking a 157-run lead and giving the hosts an opportunity to chase maximum points.

An outright victory was on the cards when the Pies slumped to 5-58, before Manpreet Mahla (43) and Umair Butt (39 not out) provided enough resistance to take the score to 6-152.

North Hobart has leapfrogged University into top spot after completing a 111run victory against Greater Northern. The Raiders resumed at 2-5 at the TCA in pursuit of 315 and were never in the hunt as a rampant Tom Rogers cut a swath through the top order.

After landing two big blows prior to stumps on Saturday night, Rogers added the big scalp of Tim David inside the first hour of play on route

to impressive figures of 5-38.

Cooper Anthes (57) was the best of the batters but the Raiders were still unable to avoid the follow-on after being dismissed for 204.

They reached 2-57 in their second innings before the captains agreed to call time.

Justin Galeotti’s second century of the season has lifted Clarence to the brink of the top four following their comfortable victory against New Town.

Resuming on 27 and with the Roos 1-92 chasing 201, Galeotti could not be prized from the crease to finish unbeaten on 116. He struck 12 boundaries and a six and shared a 146-run stand for the second wicket with Caiden Workman (78), who fell with the hosts needing just two more runs to pass the Bucks’ total.

Clarence reached 5-270 before declaring, with the visitors wobbling to 6-123 in their second innings but managing to avoid outright defeat.
