Four in Tassie linked to hot spots

-

FOUR people are quarantining in Tasmania after visiting Victorian hot spots, with thousands more being urged to check the growing list of high-risk locations after a quarantine worker tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Public Health director Mark Veitch said the investigation by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services had now identified 14 public locations visited by the worker.

Dr Veitch is urging anyone in Tasmania who was in Victoria on or after January 29 to check the updated list on the Victorian health department website.

“If you were at any of the premises at the specified dates and times, self-isolate immediately and call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 for further advice. This list may change so check this web page regularly if you were recently in Victoria,” he said.

More than 8000 people in Tasmania who have recently been to Victoria were contacted with this information on Thursday.

“Tasmania will continue to work with Victoria to contact any person who is identified as being at risk,” Dr Veitch said.

Liberal MP Roger Jaensch said Tasmanians can be confident in the fact the Victorian government was onto the situation rapidly. “I think that Tasmania and Victoria can see that we are really developing the capabilities to detect these cases as they arise, to get to them early and to provide good information,” he said.
