FORECAST FINE FOR CUP DAY

- KASEY WILKINS

BOHO is the way to go for racewear fashion this year, with a reprieve from the rain on the way for Tasmania’s premier thoroughbred racing day.

Following recent issues with the track, Tasmanian Racing Club CEO Brendan Blomeley said Elwick would be in perfect form for the Hobart Cup on Sunday — despite the rain.

“It’s great to be back racing, The Tasmanian Racing Club is very proud of the industry here in southern Tasmania, and we’re looking forward to a top day,” he said.

Mr Blomeley’s top tips for the day are 2020 winner Toorak Affair, Barade, Double You Tee and Mandela Effect.

Alongside the main race, Mr Blomeley said patrons would have classic events such as Fashions on the Field to look forward to, plus live music.

For Hobart Cup ambassador Steph Stacey, this year’s event is the perfect opportunity for racegoers to frock up and catch up with friends after the stresses of 2020.

She said it was really exciting to take on the ambassador role this year alongside Ash Sutton.

“I attend every year. My favourite part is definitely the fashion — I love dressing up,” she said.

“I love bringing my friends along. This year I’ve even introduced a lot of my friends to it, so it’s going to be great bringing them along too.”

Ms Stacey’s prediction for fashions on the day is boho.

“I think going by my own style it’s going to be very summery and floaty,” she said.

Gates open at 11am, with the Hobart Cup itself running about 4.45pm.

General admission tickets will be available on the gate, however the event is capped. LATEST COVERAGE PLUS 8-PAGE CUP GUIDE IN YOUR SUNDAY TASMANIA
