CURRY SPARKS FIGHTBACK

Mounties raring to go back-to-back with a gap

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

STEPH Curry sealed a stunning late fightback to help the Golden State Warriors to a 120-112 overtime win over the Miami Heat in the NBA on Wednesday.

Curry scored eight of the final 11 points, including a late three-pointer, to finish with 25 points and complete a remarkable comeback at San Francisco’s Chase Center.

The Warriors had looked to be heading for a heavy defeat after Miami surged to a 61-46 halftime lead.

Miami maintained that cushion for much of the second half, and led by a hefty 14 points at 99-85 with just over six minutes remaining.

But after struggling to find their range, the Warriors discovered their shooting touch and blitzed Miami 35-13 over the rest of the game.

AFTER NOT PLAYING LAST YEAR IT’S A REAL POSITIVE THE ODFA COMPETITION IS BACK UP AND RUNNING

AFTER a year on the sidelines for the pandemic, AFL Tasmania has announced players in the Southern Midlands will lace up again for the Oatlands District Football Association reboot in 2021.

AFL Tasmania met ODFA clubs and officials this week and the new competition involving Mount Pleasant, Campania, Bothwell, Campbell Town and Triabunna will kick off on April 10.

“We are really keen to get back into it,” said Nick Weeding, president of reigning premier Mount Pleasant.

“You really noticed a hole in the community with no football last year.

“I know people out on the farm who really don’t get out and socialise that much, other than football, and they really missed it.”

The ODFA will games over 15 rounds.

“It’s a shorter season to make it easier for teams to get back into it and to make it less of a commitment on those playing,” Weeding said.

Bothwell won three flags on the trot leading up to the Mounties’ premiership in 2019.

“We are saying around the club that we are going for back-to-back with a gap,”

Weeding said. He encouraged anyone wanting fun playing country football without a lot of time and commitment to seek out one of the five clubs on their Facebook pages or ODFA Facebook.

AFL Tasmania chief Damian Gill was delighted with the ODFA’s return.

“After not playing last year it’s a real positive the ODFA competition is back up and running,” Gill said.

“Football in those communities is really important.

“We saw that first-hand when we caught up with all of their clubs this week — you could see it in their eyes how much they love footy and what it means to them.

“It’s great they have bounced out of COVID-19, and I don’t think you could underestimate what that means. It’s a unique competition but an important one, and one that we are keen to support and see where it gets to from here.”
