SANDY Bay jumped to the top of the ladder with a 22-shot win over a determined Kingborough, which started well but could not hold off a fast-finishing Sandy Bay in Bowls Tasmania South’s women’s Division One pennant on Thursday.

With Helen Barnes leading well and good support provided from Anne Whenn and Lynn Barlow, Chris Dowl won nine of the last 10 ends for a convincing 18-shot win over Lee Shead.

Yvonne Buckley and Leonie Price had a tight game all day. Buckley scored six shots on the 13th end to hit the front. With Adrienne Calnan leading well, Buckley won five of the last eight ends to win by six shots.

Kingborough salvaged two pennant points with Vicki Bannister defeating Robyn Leggett. Leggett held a narrow lead after 13 ends, before Bannister won five ends in a row to win by two shots.

Claremont defeated Orford by 21 shots. Maree Morgan was the big winners for Claremont, defeating Carol Bannister by 14 shots. Meekie Salter started slowly against Pauline Sage and trailed by six shots after three ends.
