Football club coy on probe details
THE New Norfolk Football Club has launched an investigation into an “alleged incident” related to the club, but is staying tight-lipped about the nature of the complaint.
The Southern Football League, the competition New Norfolk plays in, confirmed it was aware of the incident and the club was conducting an investigation.
“The SFL has been made aware of an alleged incident involving the New Norfolk Football Club,’’ an SFL spokesman said.
“The New Norfolk Football Club is aware of the matter and will conduct an investigation.
“The SFL and AFL Tasmania will support the club as needed throughout the investigation process.”
In a statement provided to the Mercury, New Norfolk Football Club president Sally Coleman confirmed the investigation was under way.
“The New Norfolk Football Club is investigating an alleged incident,’’ she said.
“The New Norfolk Football Club has notified the SFL and AFL Tasmania about this investigation.
“The club won’t provide any further comment at this time.”
She refused to comment further when asked by the Mercury about the nature of the complaint, who it involved, and when the investigation started and the time frame for its completion.
The SFL club, nicknamed the Eagles, has representation in the men’s and women’s competitions of the league.
The men’s senior side made it to the elimination final but was beaten by Dodges Ferry, while the club’s reserves team is set to play in a preliminary final against Huonville this weekend.
The women’s team finished fourth on the SFLW division 3 competition ladder this year, but lost to Claremont in a semi-final.
