Mighty Thor wins SFL’s William Leitch
CYGNET’S glorious SFL season has continued with its premiership playing coach Thor Boscott capping off a remarkable season for the Port by taking out the 2021 William Leitch medal to be crowned the SFL’s best and fairest player at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre on Monday night.
Just two weeks ago Boscott and his Cygnet side were crowned SFL premiers with an 18 point win over arch rival Cygnet- in a game where Boscott was named best on ground- and now the premiership coach can add a William Leitch medal to his trophy cabinet.
While Boscott didn’t take out his own clubs best-andfairest he did more than enough to catch the eye of the umpires.
He landed himself 23 votes to be the clear winner ahead of Lindisfarne’s Jack Gleeson on 17 votes and Brady Jones, of Huonville, and Jye Bearman, of New Norfolk, both polling 16 votes.
Boscott becomes just the second Cygnet player to win the coveted award following Damien Dillon’s win in 2001.
A former State League player for Lauderdale, Boscott caimed the trilogy this season - premiership in his debut season as playingcoach, best afield medal in the SFL grand final, and the competition’s best player award.
In the reserve’s competition it was Huonville’s Taylor Campisi who won the George Watt Medal as the league’s best and fairest on 18 votes ahead of New Norfolk’s Torne Tangata on 17 votes, while the Lipscombe Medal for the Colts’ best and fairest was won by Cameron Walter from the Southern Storm with 22 votes ahead of Lindisfarne’s Oliver Holdsworth on 15 votes.
In the women’s awards it was a tie for the top going in the Division 1 SFLW competition with Elise Barwick from Glenorchy and Nietta Lynch from Claremont failing to be separated on 12 votes each.
In Division 2 it was Cygnet’s Ellie Doyle who won on 19 votes over Uni’s Olivia Dove on 18 votes.
In Division 3 it was Rani Cavarretta from Hutchins who polled 19 votes to win ahead of Sophie Farrow from New Norfolk on 13 votes.
In the reserves, Huonville Lion Taylor Campsi won the George Watt Medal as competition best-and-fairest, and Cameron Walter (Southern Storm) won the Colts medal,
