TYLER’S READY TO ANSWER CALL

- JARROD LAWLER jarrod.lawler@news.com.au

HE has played his final game for the Tassie Devils and has strutted his stuff at the National AFL Draft Combine, now it is a waiting game for Tyler McGinniss.

McGinniss was one of a handful of aspiring Tasmanian draft hopefuls who took part in the Draft Combine in Hobart last week.

And with the footy season all over the 20-year-old North Hobart defender has nothing left to do but wait until next month’s draft to see if he has shown enough to realise his AFL dream.

The halfback flanker was one of four Tassie prospects who took part in the combine where they were put through a series of physical tests for recruiters and AFL clubs to gain a better understanding of their physical attributes.

To receive an invitation to the combine each player had to receive a nomination from at least two AFL clubs who were keen on more data on the possible draftees.

McGinniss said he was understandably a little nervous but was content with his performance

“I’d done some testing before, but it was my first combine and I was a bit nervous as there’s a bit more pressure but I knew it was a good opportunity, so I was pretty excited at the same time,” he said.

“As is usually the case, I could have done slightly better in some of the tests.

“But overall I was pretty happy and hopefully I stacked up OK.”

At 194cm, he describes himself as a tall defender with the ability to play on talls or smalls, he loves to fly for intercept marks and use the ball by foot, and said he hoped he had shown enough to hear his name next month.

“It’s obviously been the dream for a long time and I would love to get picked up but I know it’s very hard to get drafted so now I just need to wait and see what happens,” McGinniss said.

He and fellow hopefuls will find out their fate on November 24 and 25 with this year’s draft held over two nights.
