Smart McGowan shows the way
IS a dingo fence more effective than a moat?
Well, it was predictable, Mark McGowan (the Premier of WA) is not opening his border as “scheduled”. Too smart for that! He waited to see what sort of a mess the eastern states got into first!
Sure, I know his stated reason (for making it later than us lemmings) was a low vaccination rate. But do you really believe that was the only reason?
He was just smarter and more focused on the wellbeing of the people in his electorate than our Premier. He just waited to see what the Omicron variant was all about, how we might cope with an open border, and watch and learn from the inevitable weaknesses and missteps our state(s) would suffer.
And now he has, and he doesn’t like it. He can see the fault lines.
Good decision, Mark. Keep watching us floundering about in the abyss of scary stats, virtually uncontrolled (Covid) borders, overstressed health staff and services, a reduction in PCR testing (methinks a cost-saving exercise!), limited RAT test availability, everchanging Covid contact rules and the elimination of contact tracing via check-in QR codes. Of course, our Premier had a choice too.
He could have asked one of his many overpaid advisers (if he has one who can see past the end of their nose and the tourism and hospitality industry demands), what was happening overseas in Europe, the UK, etc.
And what do you think they might say? “There’s a bloody pandemic over there. The place is closing down, countless infections, many, many deaths, overstressed medical staff and services, etc, etc.
“Wow, not too good Pete. Perhaps we better rethink this one?”
So now the answer to the above question. It’s not the height of the fence or the depth of the moat that counts, it’s the effective control of the facility available.
Who controls the fence — Mark McGowan. Who controls the moat — Peter Gutwein.
Need I say any more.
