TALENTED three-year-old filly Miss Tuppence earned a berth in next month’s Group 3 Bow Mistress Stakes after scoring an emphatic win in the $50,000 Lady Lynette over 1100m at Elwick on Sunday.

Miss Tuppence ($7) produced a barnstorming finish, coming from last to score a runaway win over the well backed Jaja Chaboogie ($9 into $4.80) with Boom Dot Com ($8) a close-up third.

The Adam Trinder-trained filly was the only three-yearold in the race and she made older and more experienced sprinters look ordinary.

“I was going to run this filly in a fillies benchmark 70 race in Melbourne, but they changed it to an open BM70, so I thought we’d come to Elwick and see if she could earn a berth in the Bow Mistress and she’s done that,” Trinder said.

Jockey Troy Baker was thrilled with the filly’s effort.

“She travelled comfortably back in the field and I was able to get the back of the right horse to take me into the race, and when we straightened up, she just lengthened stride and was simply too good for them,” Baker said.

The race favourite Deroche ($3.80) settled second behind Thunberg ($5.50), who led to the home turn before kicking three lengths clear.

Deroche emerged to challenge, but her run was shortlived and only battled over the concluding stages to finish sixth, four lengths from the winner.

Deroche was meant to be ridden by Jason Maskiell but after he rode talented twoyear-old Bello Beau to victory in the $100,000 Elwick Stakes he was forced to withdraw from all his remaining rides.

Maskiell fell off secondplaced Has The Look after the line because a stirrup strap broke.

The rider hit the turf hard and was left dazed. Medics passed him fit to continue riding but Maskiell was clearly shaken.

Bello Beau ($1.80 fav) kept his unbeaten record intact with his impressive win in the $100,000 Elwick Stakes over 1100m.

The Trinder-trained gelding raced outside of the leader Piiink Beauty with outsider

Remuda ($41) caught threewide for the trip.

When rider Maskiell called on Bello Beau to extend he quickly gained the upper hand and went on to win by two lengths from Remuda, who battled on gamely ahead of Piiink Beauty.

Trinder said Bello Beau would head to the $150,000 Gold Sovereign Stakes in Launceston in a fortnight.,

THE Phillip Stokestrained stayer Daquiansweet Junior will be aimed at next month’s Ladbrokes Launceston Cup following the gelding’s solid win in a 2500m handicap at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Daquiansweet Junior has made rapid progress through the grades, winning a benchmark 64 at Pakenham over 1600m in late November and after wins at Moonee Valley (BM70) and Caulfield (BM84) over 2000m he took on a strong field in Saturday’s benchmark 100 over 2500m.

Stokes’ racing manager Michael Harrison said the stable had eyed the Hobart Cup but have opted to target the Launceston Cup instead.
