Freeman’s heroics help sink Knights

- JARROD LAWLER

A STARRING performance from Lindisfarne’s Jarrod Freeman has led the Lightning to victory over the Knights at Lindisfarne on Sunday, with the home side winning on first innings in their two day clash.

Freeman starred with both the bat and ball over the weekend, with a knock of 63 off 78 to go along with figures of 4-36 to help guide his side to victory, despite a 6-for from returning Knights star

Clive Rose. After Lindisfarne scored 228 in reply to the Knights’ 156, the visitors went out to bat again and scored 3-146 before the game was ended early on agreement of both captains to give Lindisfarne the win.

Along with Freeman, the Lightning were served well by opener Jackson Grubb with a knock of 54 off 85, while Mac Wright returned from Hurricanes duties for day two of the match to chime in with 37 off 46 batting at No.6.

The returning Clive Rose

did the damage for the Knights with figures of 6-55 in his first game back since recovering from Covid, while Knights paceman Alex Vincent also performed well with figures of 3-55 from 18 overs.

With the bat, the Knights were best served by Dylan Hay, who backed up his firstinnings total of 50 with a 48 in the second innings.

At Kangaroo Bay, the Demons were able to chase down the Roos’ total of 273 to finish 8-274 to claim a twowicket victory.

The Dees were led by opener Blake Waight (79 off 202) and Kade Applebee (50 not out), while Zach Elliot did his best for the Ross with a century (102 off 217) and skipper Michael Jones contributed 64 off 119.

At New Town, the home side was too strong for Glenorchy, with the Bucks registering a massive win on the back of a 98-run knock from Joe Randall.

After New Town declared at 8-337, Glenorchy were no match for the Bucks to finish on 222 and fall 115 runs short of the total.

Tim Spotswood (62 off 73) was the best for Glenorchy while Brandon Kopper chimed in with 40 off 52.

In the final match of the round, the Raiders were too strong for University at UTas Oval to record a 40-run victory.

Greater Northern were led by Alistair Taylor (95 off 119) and Spencer Hayes (86 off 87) while Sam Harbinson was best for the home side with 87 off 148.
