Bombers have plan to limit impact of Glenorchy bulldozer Kamaric

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

NOT only is Lauderdale cautious of the steady rise of a developing Glenorchy, one Magpie has stood out in the Bombers’ planning for their Round 13 match at Lauderdale Oval on Saturday.

Glenorchy’s on-ball bulldozer Ben Kamaric poses a huge threat, says Lauderdale coach Dan Willing, who is searching for the win that will boost his side’s confidence and put it into the top four.

“He’s really hard to tag because he’s really strong and he sets up so well,” Willing said.

“We will have some things in place, particularly around stoppage, to try and stop his influence, while understanding he’s going to get the footy and most likely play well.

“We need our midfield group to get on top in that area, like they were last week, and win some stoppages and get good field position.”

If that doesn’t work Kamaric can expect a hard tag. “We’d be looking at Lennon Marlin and Nat Franklin doing those type of things, and if Kamaric gets right off the chain we will have to try to lock him down,” Willing said. “For the most part we go in with a team-defence attitude.”

Lauderdale hopes Allen Christensen, whose game ended in hospital with concussion last Saturday, will be back next weekend.

“He copped a pretty heavy knock. It was friendly fire from Harry Richmond,” Willing said.

“It flung him back and his head hit the ground on the way down. When I saw him at quarter-time he looked pretty crook. It was a nasty one.

“It happened three minutes into the game, so that wasn’t ideal, but he’s OK now and he’ll have a week off and be right to go against North Launceston.”

Lauderdale’s form has been frustrating for players and coach.

“We are fully aware of what our best looks like, we just haven’t been able to do it for long periods of time,” Willing said.
