DE GOEY DESERVES SCORN LET FOR CONTINUING TO – DOWN CLUB – AND HIMSELF

- MARK ROBINSON

JORDAN De Goey might be the dumbest player of his generation.

Other players have made mistakes, but this guy could represent Australia if we had the dumb games.

That probably sounds harsh, but all Collingwood wants, and what all football fans want, is for De Goey to give himself the best opportunity to get the best out of himself.

Why he feels the need to try to pull the top down of a female in Bali is bewildering, not withstanding Bali is a place of frivolity.

On the back of his New York adventure, where to be fair he had charges against him dropped, De Goey has the capacity like few footballers to find controversy.

You’d think he would keep the cleanest of sheets in Bali, yet here we are – worse, here Collingwood is – having to decide whether De Goey’s behaviour is of a young man having fun, or a young man who has discredited himself and the club again.

The video is largely harmless, the interlude with the female where he tugged at her top and she stopped him is the concern.

Bali can be a temptress, but De Goey surely had to know his behaviour in the Aussie-loved enclave would be observed. And if he didn’t know that, his minders needed to warn him not be stupid.

It’s a shame this has happened, for De Goey was earning the respect of the footy world for how he’s helped the Collingwood renaissance this year.

His behaviour is not a hanging offence, but it’s an offence all the same. He’s 26 for god’s sake, he’s not 18. And he just has to know better.

Dumb may be a bit harsh, but I’m really disappointed in him, and for him.
