Doyle just Jackies foil Roth looking for

JACKJUMPERS coach Scott Roth says he is thrilled with the addition of star import Milton Doyle and believes his signing along with fellow recruit Rashard Kelly will take their defence to another level next season. “I’m ecstatic,” Roth said. “I tracked him over the last two or three years and kept his name on my radar and he’s highly coveted by a lot of teams and I just thought he’d be a great fit.

“He’s versatile and has great size and really good length and he’s a defensive-minded guy that’s played point guard in the past as well and he’ll just give us more size across the front line.”

Roth said, while he was a different kind of player to the outgoing Josh Adams, he would allow Doyle to play his natural game and take on a bigger scoring load after being restricted in Europe.

“His role is going to be increased and he knows that coming here,’’ Roth said.

“We are looking for him to get some points on the board for us and we definitely want him to open up his game.

“I think in Europe they are more of the mindset about minutes restrictions and not playing quite as many minutes and getting as many shots and we are going to let him go back to how he was early in the G-League and getting shots up and playing freely and confidently.

“He’s a great ball mover and a guy who will get other people involved. He’s not Josh Adams, he’s Milton Doyle and that’s how it is, we’ve got a hell of a player in him and we move on and we are extremely excited to have him.”

Roth said the addition of Doyle and fellow American Kelly, along with an injury free Will Magnay, would be a huge defensive weapon for the Jackies.

“Milton and Rashard, they are both really good athletes and our size has just gotten bigger and then you add Magnay in there and we have three really good athletes with versatility and speed.

“I think that will benefit us especially on the defensive end and continuing to play full court and making people uncomfortable.”
