TIMELY THOR FOR FINE PORT

- JAMES BRESNEHAN james.bresnehan@news.com.au

CYGNET will go back to the top of the ladder with a win over Sorell in their SFL Round 12 match at Pembroke Park on Saturday.

The side also has coach Thor Boscott returning to help it go back to No.1.

Boscott missed last week’s 52-point win over New Norfolk at Cygnet because of illness, but his presence will lift the Port in its contest with a potential finalist.

Cygnet utility Joel Poke said the side was always better with Boscott.

“He’s back after the flu so he’ll bring leadership and another option for us up forward, or through the midfield, wherever he chooses to play himself,” Poke said. “He will make a big difference, and we’ve got Jake Dance, a small forward, coming back this week too.”

The Port is in a battle for supremacy on the ladder with Lindisfarne, which has the bye this weekend.

The Two Blues are top of the ladder after 11 rounds, sitting on 40 premiership points and a whopping percentage of 216.64. If Cygnet beats sixth-placed Sorell it would equal Lindisfarne on points but inherit top spot with a superior percentage.

The Port is trying to claim back-toback flags under Boscott.

“That’s what we want and that’s what we expect,” Poke said.

“It would mean heaps to win it again, and all of our hard work over the past two years would pay off.

“It would mean a lot to the supporters and old players as well.”

Cygnet is aware that Sorell poses a real danger on its home deck.

“They’ve been in good form and we haven’t been at our best over the past few weeks,” Poke said. “Sorell at home are a six- or seven-goal better side, so they are definitely a threat.”

Cygnet is working to make sure it ticks all the right boxes over the remaining seven weeks of the home-andaway series.

“We’re making sure we do all the little things, getting to training and buying in,” Poke said. “We’re after some good wins over the rest of the roster games, play our best footy, get everyone back on the park and make sure we enjoy it.”

He said the Port’s best football is yet to come.

“We’ve played well in patches, but we haven’t strung our best footy together in many games yet,” Poke said.

“When we played Huonville at home, that was probably our best footy, but we still haven’t strung our best footy together over a month or so.”

In other games, the Huonville Lions are at home to Dodges Ferry, Claremont hosts Brighton at Abbotsfield Park, and New Norfolk plays Hobart at Boyer.
