Take control over your energy use

Aurora’s energy saving tool puts the power in customers’ hands, writes Kane Ingham

AS your 100 per cent Tasmanian owned and operated energy retailer, Aurora Energy is committed to doing what we can to assist the community when it is needed.

Although Tasmanians have had some of the lowest regulated power costs in Australia for the past six years, bills on average are still some of the highest because of our cooler climate and older housing stock, which tend to be far less energy efficient.

That’s why it is important at this time of year to think about how we can use less energy while still keeping warm, and we have something that can help.

aurora+ is an amazing tool that allows customers to gain greater control over your energy usage and ultimately reduce electricity costs. It lets you track your usage in dollars and kilowatt hours and conveniently manage it all from a smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.

Being able to see how and when you’re using energy is powerful as it provides the proof to help change habits around the home, which is even more important in the cold, dark winter months.

Because you have visibility of exactly what you owe 24/7 and you’re billed monthly, aurora+ can substantially reduce the impacts of bill shock, address energy affordability issues and empower you to make the changes needed to bring down your energy bill.

Another benefit of aurora + is that you avoid estimated bills as the product runs off advanced meters, which are read remotely and remove the need for it to be done manually. All Aurora customers on eligible tariffs can access aurora+ simply by requesting an advanced meter. And the good thing is in the vast majority of situations, there is no upfront cost to upgrade your meter.

Aurora knows from research and product experience that customers who use aurora+ feel more in control of their energy consumption and are much less likely to experience bill shock, and these customers have a lower level of debt than non-users. We have also heard from customers and community organisations that the 11c per day product fee is a barrier to accessing it – so from July 1, Aurora will no longer be charging customers an extra fee for using aurora+.

While seeing our energy usage can lower our power costs, I know that there are many Tasmanians struggling to keep on top of the cost of living. Aurora understands this as well and that is why we have a range of support options available for customers that need help paying their bill. This includes payment extensions, payment plans, direct financial assistance through our new $1.7m Customer Support Fund and our nationally recognised Your Energy Support program, which provides tailored support for customers in hardship. We also recently provided $200,000 to top up the Tasmanian government’s energy hardship fund to directly support customers experiencing financial vulnerability.

If you’re in need of support this winter, call Aurora Energy on 1300 13 2003 weekdays or go to
