SLICK CHARGERS CLAIM TOP SPOT IN STYLE

- JARROD LAWLER jarrod.lawler@news.com.au

THE Hobart Chargers mens side continue to make light work of the NBL1 South division after claiming top spot on the league table with a pair of come-from-behind road victories while its women’s side continued their resurgence with its second win in its last three games.

The Chargers were made to work hard in both of their victories over the weekend with the side having to play catchup after a pair of slow starts before eventually registering their eighth and ninth consecutive wins.

Up first, the Chargers clashed with Nunawading on Saturday where thanks to a 26-19 final term they were able to register a gutsy 88-82 win.

In an impressive all-round team performance the Chargers had six players score in double figures in the win with Jarred Bairstow (18 points, seven rebounds) and American guard AJ Harris (16 points, four assists) leading the way.

On Sunday, they were made to be comeback kings once more after Frankston sucker-punched them with a 32 to 19 opening term.

But as they’ve managed to do in their past nine games the Chargers went to another gear when needed to outscore the

Blues 52-33 over the next two quarters to set up a 95-90 win to take their tally to nine straight. AJ Harris (25 points) starred again for the Chargers while big man Harry Froling (23 points, nine rebounds) continued his hot form.

The team’s winning ways appear to have rubbed off on its women's side as well who after a tough loss to Nunawading on Saturday bounced back with a dramatic comeback win over Frankston to record their second win in their last three games after losing their first 12 games.

Sharna Thompson (19 points) was the hero for the Chargers after hitting a tough lay-up in the dying seconds to give her side a thrilling 67-66 win.

Both sides will return to the court Friday when they host Diamond Valley at Kingston.
