The big charge to reach top 10

THE red-hot Hobart Chargers will be gunning for its 10th straight win in Kingston on Friday night as the team prepares to welcome back coach Anthony Stewart after missing last week’s road trip due to Covid-19.

Despite Stewart being a late exclusion from the road trip to Victoria, his side continued on its merry way with assistant coach Matthew Bennell taking the reins to lead it to wins over Nunawading and Frankston — making it nine on the trot while claiming top spot in the process.

With Stewart expected to return to the fold the Chargers (12-3) will look to retain top spot when they host Diamond Valley (7-8) and Knox (8-7) on Friday and Saturday night.

Ahead of their double header, star centre Harry Froling said that despite their ninegame winning streak the Chargers still had a mountain of room to grow.

“We’ve definitely got a long way to go and we definitely aren’t getting complacent,” Froling said.

“We have to stay consistent and keep doing what we are doing but we are nowhere near where we could be.

“We are winning games purely off talent right now because we are such a talented team and there’s been a couple guys step up and have big games.

“But again we are nowhere near where we can be.

“On the weekend, we went down 17 in the first half and we can’t have that and yes we came back and won on talent but those sorts of games we have to be winning them and convincingly too.”

With JackJumper star Sam McDaniel still to return to the

team from Boomers duties, Froling said the team’s talent of riches was both a blessing and a curse as his side searched for the chemistry required to achieve their lofty goals this season.

“It’s good and bad in a way because we haven’t got our chemistry going yet,” he said.

“Obviously, when Sam McDaniel comes back it’s going to help us a lot but right now we are just trying to put it all together.

“It is exciting but we’ll have to work through it and it’ll take us a little while to adjust.

“Sometimes, having too much talent can be an issue, so we have to figure that out and the dynamic of the team, and everyone finding their role on the team and hopefully we can keep rolling.”

The Chargers will host Diamond Valley in Kingston on Friday at 8pm before backing up against Knox on Saturday night at 7pm at the Southern Tasmania Netball Centre in New Town.
