Chargers keen to dish out revenge

A RESURGENT Hobart Chargers women’s side says it will head into its clash with Diamond Valley in Kingston on Friday night in search of payback as they look to continue their late-season revival.

After starting the season winless from the first 12 games, the Chargers appear to have turned a corner after winning two of their past three games, including a 67-66 victory over Frankston last weekend.

While coach Dwain Davie said he didn’t have a set number of wins he was hoping to achieve in the team’s last seven games, he did say his side would seek revenge against Diamond Valley on Friday.

“We played them on the road the first time and it’s a game we probably let slip as we were up by five at some stage in the last quarter and we fell into a hole,” Davie said.

“We really walked away from that really disappointed and feeling like it was a game we should have won so we have really set ourselves for this week to come out with the mindset that we sort of owe them one.

“And we have to come out and play that way and play with a bit of anger and make it so if they’re going to go away with a win, they’ll come away with some bruises.

“So we are certainly coming out with that on our mind on Friday night.”

While finals are out of the equation for his side, Davie said the mentality of his side had switched and they would now enter its remaining games full of confidence.

“At the start of the season we probably had three to five games where we were capable of winning but let slip through our fingers through a lack of experience and potentially depth,” Davie said.

“But particularly since we hit the halfway mark we’ve turned a corner and really matured as a group and our expectation every time we walk into a game is to play well enough to win.

“Particularly in these last seven games, we see some games we are capable of winning and the challenge for us is to piece it all together and keep doing that.”

The Chargers will host Diamond Valley in Kingston at 6pm on Friday followed by a game against Knox on Saturday at 5pm at the Southern Tasmania Netball Centre.

The Chargers men’s side will play following both games at 8pm and 7pm respectively.
