Classy Chargers vanquish Valley

- JARROD LAWLER

THE Hobart Chargers continued their resurgence in Kingston on Friday night with star forward Angie Tompkins spearheading the side to its third win in its past four games with a vengeful 93-66 victory over Diamond Valley.

With the Eagles’ only victory of a horror season coming against the Chargers in May the home side entered the clash looking for payback and on the back of a red-hot Tompkins and her supporting cast they found it with a comfortable 27- point win.

Despite having just one victory to their name and riding a 10-game losing streak the Eagles came out soaring in the clash with a 23-17 first term putting the Chargers on high alert of another upset defeat.

But from there it didn’t take long for the resurgent Chargers to flex their muscles and flip the game on its head with Tompkins putting in a dominant term to register 16 points and seven rebounds at the half to help turn a four-point deficit into a 41-37 lead at the main break.

With their confidence sky high, and the supporting cast of Paige Bradley and Leah Bartlett also wreaking havoc, the Chargers blitzed the visitors with a clinical second half, outscoring them 52-29 to run away with their third win of the season.

An unstoppable Tompkins finished the game with 35 points and 17 rebounds.

In support, fellow American Paige Bradley (18 points, eight rebounds, nine assists) flirted with a triple double and local Leah Bartlett (17 points, seven rebounds) put in a great cameo performance.

After losing their first 12 games of the season the Chargers will now look to make it four wins in their past five games when they host Knox on Saturday night at 5pm at the Southern Tasmania Netball Centre in New Town.
