Units, retail among mix at prime site

A LARGE plot of land next to the main shopping centre in Blackmans Bay is on the market and with it an approved application for a major development expected to help grow the booming suburb.

Knight Frank head of project marketing George Burbury said it was the chance to develop in a suburb growing in popularity.

He said the 3000sq m site at 11 Opal Drive would also have more options than residential.

“The Opal Drive site has approval for a multistorey, mixed-use development – incorporating 28 residential apartments, 447sq m of much needed retail and a detached 475sq m two-storey building approved for medical use,” Mr Burbury said.

Knight Frank leasing consultant Claude Alcorso said the site was in a prime location, next to the main shopping centre in Blackmans Bay.

“The popular Bayview Market is anchored by Hill Street Grocer and a number of other top tier tenants including Terry White Chemist, Australia Post, Banjos Bakery, a dental surgery, a Cellarbrations bottle shop, doctors’ clinic and five other specialty shops,” Mr Alcorso said.

He said it was also close to two childcare centres, a primary school and Blackmans Bay beach.

“This is a very rare opportunity to secure a site with a well designed approved DA, exceptional water views and excellent surrounding amenity,” Mr Alcorso said.

“The development permit also includes parking for 86 cars. Blackmans Bay and Kingborough have one of Hobarts fastest growing populations with a catchment area of over 37,000 people.”

Expressions of interest close on August 1.
