Green primed to put spring in Roos’ step

CLARENCE hopes ruckman Sam Green can continue his purple patch against North Launceston at UTas Stadium on Saturday in a game that could boost the Roos’ chances of securing their place in the TSL’s top three and grab a home final.

It would be a huge advantage to host the eliminator between the teams that finish third and fourth, that’s why the Roos know the value of beating the Northern Bombers for the third consecutive time.

Two wins over the Northern Bombers already makes Clarence cautiously optimistic going into its round 17 contest, with a win critical to North’s chances of making the finals.

Clarence assistant-coach Trent Hope can’t put his finger on why the Roos have done well against the northern powerhouse.

“We try and focus on what we are doing and not put too much into the way they play,” Hope said.

“We love playing at UTas. It’s a big ground and we’re a young group and with the work we’ve done our fitness is there, so we’re looking forward to a great contest.”

Hope said Green’s “investment onto the group” was inspiring.

“He battles hard each week and brings 100 per cent effort,” he said. “He’s quite undersized in his position but he is definitely a player who has impressed me this season.”

Key onballer Baxter Norton has also stepped up a level.

“He’s an A-grade midfielder who continually finds the footy,” Hope said.

Last week’s win over Lauderdale put the Roos a game clear of Lauderdale (third) and North Launceston (fifth).

Clarence must get the job done without midfielder Mitch Rainbird, who kicked two crucial third-term goals against Lauderdale last weekend.
