Bombers willing and oval now able

- RYAN ROSENDALE

LAUDERDALE coach Dan Willing says Skybus Oval is ready and waiting to host this week’s heritage clash against Glenorchy following several weeks of rain affecting the condition of the ground.

The Bombers are set to turn back the clock and don their Cats jumper on Saturday, and after weeks of speculation around the state of the Lauderdale ground, Willing says his side is always happy to play on its home deck, despite what outsiders might believe.

“We are always more than happy to play at Skybus, it’s our home ground. We weren’t advocating for last week’s game to be moved, but the reality was it wasn’t in great condition,” Willing said. “We haven’t had as much rain this week and we’ve stayed off it. The top end is still a touch uneven and muddy, but the rest of the ground is starting to show some significant improvement.”

For home-ground hero Sam Siggins, a Cat attack will bring back fond memories.

“I played all of my junior footy in the Cats colours until we went to the Bombers later on,” Siggins said.

“I love pulling on the Cats jumper. It brings back a lot of great memories. I’ve always said I’d love to one day get it back to the Cats colours and it will mean a lot to some of the past players coming along on Saturday, who won premierships in the Cats jumper.”

With more than 150 past players and supporters going to the lunch, Willing expects his side to respond from two consecutive losses at home.

“We were able to compete with a quality opposition (in Launceston) for long periods of the game, but the week before against Clarence we just didn’t do that as well,” Willing said.
