Here comes the main event. The Athletics competitio­n starts today and while Australia might not be the strongest nation on the track, they are coming off a supreme world titles with two gold medals. Rohan Browning is among the first up, can Australia’s fastest man finally break the 10 seconds barrier?

Hockey

Australia will get a shot at revenge today taking on the New Zealand team that stole gold from them at the 2018 Commonweal­th Games. The Kiwis proved too good for the Hockeyroos at the Gold Coast but this Australian side is much improved and favourite to win gold.

Australia won the only two gold medals on offer at the 2018 Gold Coast Games, but that was 5on-5 ball, this 3x3 hoops is a different beast. Will Australia maintain their dominance? Can the wheelchair teams get in on the action. All four gold medals are up for grabs today.

Netball

This is a game former Diamonds head coach Lisa Alexander has pencilled in as a danger clash for Australia. Why? Wales is one of the countries that has invested heavily in netball high performanc­e since the last Games. Their team will be fitter, stronger and faster than ever. Swimming

The most tactical race of the pool hits the water with the mixed medley relay. Team selection is crucial. Two women and two men, four strokes. Australia could pick about six different teams to win. But pick the wrong team, like USA at the Olympics in Tokyo, and they won’t.

This could be our Judokas’ best chance at medals with two stars from 2014 - Jake Bensted and Katharina Häecker - back in the hunt. Bensted won bronze in Glasgow while Häecker was fourth. Aoife Coughlan (women’s 70kg) and Uros Nikolic (men’s 81kg) are on debut.

Gymnastics

Tyson Bull created Australian history placing fifth in the horizontal bar at the Tokyo Olympics, so hopes are high he can fight for the gold in today’s final. Other medals today include the men’s Vault and Parallel Bars while the women have the Balance beam and Floor events. Lawn Bowls

Can Rebecca Van Asch and Natasha Van Eldik lead Australia's women’s fours win back-to-back gold medals? The duo were the stars of Gold Coast 2018 and could headline a big day on the green that also includes the men’s pairs medal matches and Para men’s pairs medal matches.

Australia’s Tokyo silver starlets Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar edge closer to the crucial quarter-final stages of the competitio­n with their last pool match today against Trinidad & Tobago. The Aussies will be keen to avoid Canada until the gold medal match.

Boxing

Fighting out of the same gym as Australia’s shock world champ George Kambosos Jr, Taha Ahmad is a light middleweig­ht hoping to make his own name in Birmingham. Don’t miss Tina Rahimi in the women’s featherwei­ght event making her Commonweal­th Games debut.
