Options aplenty at new shops village

- RYAN ROSENDALE

A DESSERT bar and a pet treat station are just two of the features on offer for Coles supermarket customers at the new Glebe Hill Village centre at Howrah.

The opening of the store on Wednesday – Coles’ 17th in Tasmania and first in 12 years – is one of several at the new shopping centre, including the state’s first Liquorland outlet.

Centre developers Tipalea Partners said other retailers open from Wednesday include Priceline, Australia

Post, Subway, Liv-eat, Pizzarazzi, Hokkaido Sushi, Panda Massage and Lumos Florist Studio.

The rest of the retailers are expected to open over the next few days.

Construction began at the Howrah site early last year and Coles store manager Troy LaDuke expects the opening to be a major boost for the community, with more than 100 jobs created.

“This is the first time in 12 years we’ve opened a new Coles store,” Mr LaDuke said.

“Customers can expect amazing service and spacious shopping and we’re really excited

to welcome shoppers into our store.

“The large majority of our staff will be locals from the area, so they are very eager to provide the community with a Coles location closer to home to do their shopping.”

Tasmanian products will be easy to find at the store with Coles striking a partnership with the state government to put the Brand Tasmania trademark on Tassie-made and grown products.

Liquorland will offer customers a similar experience with the store to feature more than 320-Tasmanian-made

wine, beer and spirits from 60 local producers.

Store manager Patrick Aiken knows how important it is to support local producers.

“We’re pushing as much local Tasmanian product into the store as we can,” Mr Aiken said.

“We know how proud Tasmania is of their own brands and wanting to support local companies, so we couldn’t be happier to showcase local products.”

Wednesday’s opening will be followed by a family fun day at the complex on Saturday.

Tipalea Partners chief executive Scott Spanton said the Glebe Hill Village app was also operational, representing the first retail centre app in Tasmania.

“We are proud to pioneer retail centre apps in Tasmania and elevate the level of customer service and convenience on offer at Glebe Hill Village,” he said.

“The app allows users to pre-order food and book appointments for services in the centre as well as view key data in real-time, such as how busy the centre is and also environmental performance information.”
