Rodman and Bucks make move up ladder
GLENORCHY Rodman and Buckingham were the big movers at the completion of Round 8 of Bowls South’s Women’s Thursday Pennant, with Rodman up to fifth on the ladder, and Bucks into the top four.
At Glenorchy Rodman, a determined all-round effort resulted in the visitors, Sorell, being outplayed and for Rodman an all-rinks win, 79-41.
Roseanne McCann had an 18-shot win against Vicki Philp, 29-11, Crystal Brooks won by a wide margin against Patricia Taylor, 29-14, and Peta Barnett defeated Janet Cowen, 21-16.
A resurgent Buckingham defeated their hosts, Rosny Park, on two rinks by five shots, 56-61.
A convincing 15 shot win by Jeanette Lane, 32-17 against Gaylene Ridgeway, set up the victory for Bucks.
A close game between Bucks’ Christine Thompson and Judith Sherrin resulted in a two-shot win to Thompson, 15-13.
Ailsa Milburn, assisted by good bowls throughout the game from her three, Di Petrie, contributed two points to Rosny by defeating Lynette Hall, 26-14.
Howrah was too strong for Glenorchy City at the Howrah
Indoor Centre, winning on all rinks, 80-41.
A significant highlight of the match were the excellent bowls from Howrah’s three leads, Glenda Iriving, Anne Mullavey and Shirley who created good starts for their skips.
Rosie Geeves defeated Cheryl Ann Nielsenbeck by 16 shots, 27-11. Charon Foster was another big winner for Howrah, winning by 15 shots against Leonie Hyland, 27-12.
In the closest game of the day, Denise Tanner defeated Ingrid Makowski, 26-18.
Sandy Bay defeated Claremont 10-2 in fluctuating windy conditions at Sandy Bay. The Peri Buckley rink, spearheaded by Yvonne Buckley playing at three, forged a nine-point rink win against Claremont’s Trudy Davis, 22-13.
Robyn Leggett scored a four on the last end to defeat Claremont’s Meekie Salter, 20-19.
In a close game throughout, Claremont’s Maree Morgan rink defeated Jac Phillips by two shots, 21-19.
Kingborough welcomed Orford to their Indoor Centre, enjoying a two-rink, 63-44 win.
Leonie Price’s regular team of Nadine Seabourne, Colleen Dance and Pauline Connell recovered from a loss the previous week and was never under pressure from Therese Gatenby’s team, winning 29-11.
