What a year it was
April 19: Prince Harry admits the UK is no longer his home in an interview with NBC in the US. He notably avoids saying whether he misses his father and brother.
June 2: The Queen marks 70 years on the throne with four days of Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not invited to stand on the Buckingham Palace balcony and keep a low profile.
September 8: The UK’s longest-serving monarch dies at Balmoral Castle aged 96.
September 12: Prince Andrew is heckled by a man as he walks behind the Queen’s coffin on the way to St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh from the
Palace of Holyroodhouse.
September 17: All eight of the Queen’s grandchildren stand in silent vigil beside her coffin at Westminster Hall amid soaring tensions between William and Harry.
September 19: The state funeral for the Queen takes place at Westminster Abbey. Prince Harry, who along with Prince Andrew is banned from wearing military uniform, attends with Meghan Markle.
October 16: Ghislaine Maxwell speaks from a US prison cell about how she
feels “so bad” for her “dear friend” Prince Andrew. The remarks are seen as embarrassing for
Andrew as he has repeatedly tried to distance himself from the disgraced socialite.
October 27: Prince Harry announces his raw and unflinching memoir, Spare, will be released in January 2023. December 7: The Sussexes receive the Ripple of Hope from the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation. Kerry Kennedy says the pair received the honour for their stance against “structural racism” in the royal family.
December 8: Netflix releases the first three episodes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s tell-all documentary. December 15: The final three episodes of Harry & Meghan are released. Prince Harry accuses Buckingham Palace of briefing against him and feeding negative stories to the media. He also accuses his brother of “screaming” at him during the Sandringham summit.
