All set for a memorable festive season in Hobart

-

THE weather is warm, the yachts are on their way and one of the state’s most popular food festivals kicks off today – Hobart during the festive season is the place to be. After a couple of years with Covid restrictions in place, the state’s busiest tourism period is now back in full swing with accommodation rates high and entertainment venues busy.

The waterfront will be buzzing over the next few days as family and friends catch up over a drink or meal and flock to the wharf area.

For many it will be the first time in a few years they have been able to travel unrestricted. Even our Princess Mary has taken the chance to celebrate the Christmas period with her Hobart family.

The masts of the big maxis will dominate the skyline among hundreds of yachts tied up at the docks as the Sydney-Hobart, Melbourne-Hobart and Launceston Hobart races finish in the nation’s most picturesque port.

The casual and friendly nature of Hobart means crowds can wander up alongside the ocean giants and even run their hands along the sleek multi million-dollar hulls and have a chat to the weary sailors after their gruelling trip south.

of the Taste of Summer Festival are anticipating a big turnout and have expanded seating and entertainment for the throngs.

The event is a family-friendly affair with free admission for children under 16 and special attractions provided for families with children under 12.

While most of us are more relaxed about Covid, it is worth remembering that a current outbreak means there is still a lot of it about and public health officials are urging masks be worn inside.

Please stay at home if you are suffering symptoms, there are still many who are vulnerable to this deadly virus. Covid makes alfresco dining a popular and sensible option.

If we can all stay safe and do the right thing, it will make this festive season one to remember and who knows, you may even experience a brush with royalty.
