WEBSTER STEPS UP TO NATIONAL STAGE AT HOME

- JON TUXWORTH

TASMANIAN driver Josh Webster is set to leap on to the national stage in front of his home fans when he makes his Trans Am Series debut at the AWC Race Tasmania Launceston’s Symmons Plains.

The multiple Tasmanian Hyundai Excel Series champion will take the next step at the season opener from February 2426, following in the footsteps of fellow Tasmanians Owen Kelly and Lochie Dalton.

Webster competed at AWC Race Tasmania as part of the Hyundai Excel field for the past two years and will drive a Chevrolet Camaro prepared by Dream Racing Australia.

“Trans Am is pretty competitive and we’re going to have to put our best foot forward and bring our A-game,” Webster said.

“I think the category has made some big steps forward in the past few seasons, so to be joining the series on the mainland will be a step up.

Webster has already completed testing at

Symmons Plains and Baskerville and is confident that the car will be competitive.

“It’s the ex-Josh Haynes Chevrolet Camaro, which raced competitively in TA2 the last season or so,” he said.

“We’ve had a few test sessions and haven’t really changed a lot. I’ve just been getting used to the car and we’re not that far off the pace.

“We’ve linked up with Dream Racing Australia for this season and I’m sure the car will be a rocket ship. That all came about when the team invited us up in July for a test day at Queensland Raceway and basically it all stemmed from that.

“It doesn’t happen often debuting at home, but it’s pretty cool to make the step up to a competitive national category class at my home track.”

Other classes set to race at Launceston include the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series, S5000 Australian Drivers’ Championship and Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters.
