Man U fire on all cylinders without Ronaldo

-

CHRISTIAN Eriksen says that the Manchester United players have moved on swiftly from Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure.

United cancelled Ronaldo’s contract last month after the 37-year-old criticised the club’s owners, the Glazer family, and the manager Erik ten Hag in a TalkTV interview.

“First of all, we are sad that Ronaldo is not part of (the club),” the 30-year-old Eriksen said. “His legacy, and his name at any club, is special. Football goes on. You feel that the next game after. People will forget what it was like before and now our focus is really like he is not here.”

United looked as though they did not miss Ronaldo on Tuesday as they beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 thanks to goals from Fred, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, who scored his 10th goal of the season. “I haven’t been on the pitch where he has played a bad game yet,” Eriksen said of Rashford. “He is looking sharp and confident.”

Eriksen teed up Rashford for his goal with a set-piece routine they had mastered on the training ground.

Rashford converted the Denmark star’s low delivery from a corner after the rest of the United players had run to the back post, taking most of the defenders with them.

“We practised it (on Monday),” Eriksen said. “Luckily it went a lot better than it did in training.”

Ten days after winning the World Cup with Argentina, Lisandro Martinez returned to training on Wednesday.

Ten Hag will see how the centre back fares in training before deciding whether to select him for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday.
