Khan has to score at the double

- ANDREW CAPEL

ADELAIDE Strikers superstar Rashid Khan is eyeing a historic double in his final BBL12 match at Adelaide Oval on Thursday night.

The Afghanistan leg-spin wizard, who will jet off for the South Africa T20 league after the crucial clash against the Hobart Hurricanes, needs two wickets to become the first overseas player to take 100 BBL wickets.

The world’s No.2 ranked T20 bowler sits seventh in the all-time BBL wicket takers list, with 98 in 68 matches.

The six centurions are all locals, headlined by the competition’s leading wicket taker Sean Abbott, who has 135 for the Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixers.

The others, prior to last night’s matches, are Perth Scorcher Andrew Tye (131), Melbourne Renegade Kane Richardson (123), former Strikers, Heat and Hurricanes seamer Ben Laughlin (111), Sixer Ben Dwarshuis (108) and the Melbourne Stars’ Adam Zampa (106).

Rashid is in line to become the fastest to reach the milestone.

The honour is held by Tye, who chalked up his 100th victim in his 72nd match.

But Rashid is in the midst of a personal dry spell.

The 24-year-old has taken only six wickets in his seven matches this campaign – 10 behind team and competition leader Henry Thornton – and three of them came in round one against the Sixers.

Rashid, who last week was reappointed Afghanistan’s T20I captain, has figures of 3-134 from his past six matches although he didn’t bowl in round two when the Strikers steamrolled the Thunder for a record BBL low score of 15.

Usually remarkably economical, Rashid was uncharacteristically thumped for 43 (for one wicket) from his four overs in Monday’s seven-wicket loss to the Hurricanes in Hobart.
