Entire Tassie town on market for $12m
WHEN this remote former Hydro town was last on the market, it was inches from being sold.
Then Covid struck and skittled the deal.
Tarraleah owner Julian Homer was not rattled. Instead, he got to work immediately planning how to improve the already mindblowing opportunity his tourism attraction offered.
Ed McKay from Peterswald for property said a point of difference now compared to early 2021 was the legwork had been done with the local council to make the next owner’s potential plans as smooth sailing as possible.
“The owners have invested in landscaping and the village itself,” he said.
“But they’ve also gone through the process of developing a community development scheme, which is now in its final stages,” he said.
“That would be a huge benefit for a developmentminded buyer.
“The scheme was worked on with the Central Highlands Council to protect the integrity of the town while also attracting people to this outstanding corner of our state.”
Priced at $12m-plus, No.150 Oldina Dr stretches across 147ha of land, with 90ha of village-zoned residential. The site features nearly 8500sq m of buildings.
These include the awardwinning Lodge at Tarraleah featuring luxury accommodation with nine suites, a dining room, library, bar and fireplace, plus the Edge Restaurant and Function Centre: a two-storey, award-winning building for 100 guests.
The Gate House has previously operated as a sauna, spa, massage rooms and gymnasium with spectacular sweeping views of the valley.
There are further cafes, restaurants and function spaces, a caravan park, 18 renovated cottages, two lakeside villas and four cabins adjacent to a brown trout-stocked lake.
Mr McKay described the opportunity as “unprecedented”.
“It is truly remarkable, an absolute gem of a property,” he said.
“Tasmania’s tourism sector
is a premium offering and Tarraleah’s future could be a foodie destination, a wellness retreat and spa, or it might be developed to satiate demand for adventure and mountain bike tourism. The opportunities are endless.”
While the property hit the open market this week, the agency has been working on the project for months.
Mr McKay said interest has come from local buyers, buyers who are located interstate and all over the world.
“Mr Homer’s vision for the property was always to transform it into what it should be,” he said. “And now the time is right for a new owner to take it to the next level.”
Located one hour and 50 minutes’ drive from Hobart, No.150 Oldina Dr, Tarraleah, is listed with Peterswald and will be sold by expressions of interest in the $12m-plus price
