Jockeys given stay for Millions delay

- TRENTON AKERS

QUEENSLAND stewards will work with jockeys who were due to start their suspensions this week, in order to give them every opportunity to ride in the postponed Magic Millions on Thursday.

Leading jockey Jimmy Orman, along with Andrew Mallyon, were due to start suspensions this week, while Sydney jockey Tommy Berry has his hearing with New South Wales stewards on Tuesday over alleged links professional punter.

While the Berry matter is out of the hands of Queensland officials, chief steward Josh Adams confirmed work was underway to give affected jockeys the best chance of riding on Thursday.

Adams said Orman had already been successful in changing his dates, allowing him to ride Spiritualised in the $2m Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, along with Chrysaor in the 2YO Classic.

“We are working through it,” Adams said.

“We were able to sort out James Orman on Saturday night, then there is Andrew Mallyon and a couple of others we will work through when QCAT opens (on Monday).

“We are happy to work with the jockeys on this matter, we will give them every opportunity to work with QCAT.

“They will have up until the last moment, but when it comes to QCAT we have little say or power. We aren’t working against them on this matter, we are working with them.”

Berry, who has accepted on six rides at the Gold Coast on Thursday, will learn his fate with New South Wales stewards on Tuesday.

It comes as the reworked race order for Thursday was released, with officials moving forward the 2YO Classic and 3YO Guineas to fit in with free to air TV. The 2YO Classic will be race three, while the 3YO Guineas is race four.
