WATERBOYS TO NOTCH UP 500TH RADIO SHOW

- RYAN ROSENDALE

ONE of Tasmania’s most popular radio shows will hit a major milestone when it returns for its first broadcast of 2023.

The Waterboys, which debuted back in 2011, will register episode 500 when hosts Brent Costelloe, Cam Brown and Blair Brownless return to the airwaves on Saturday morning.

Costelloe said it was overwhelming to have been on the air for 13 years.

“To reach 500 episodes is a real pinch-yourself moment,” the WIN News Sports Journalist said.

“If someone told us in 2011 that we were about to enter our 13th season, we probably would’ve laughed at them.”

While Costelloe, Brown and Brownless are the show’s mainstays, The Waterboys has welcomed over a thousand individual guests throughout its lifetime with a host of local and international sports stars joining the boys.

“We’ve had so many guests it’s tough to single them out but getting a local icon such as Ricky Ponting on, along with tennis superstars Ash Barty and Eugenie Bouchard and NBA dynamo Patrick Mills were definitely a few highlights across the journey,” Costelloe said.

When it first began, the show ran exclusively on Hobart’s 7HOFM, but within the last 18 months it became a statewide broadcast and can now be heard on six different stations across Tasmania through the Australian Radio Network (ARN).

Despite all three having been with the show since day one, there are no plans for them to hang up their headphones anytime soon.

“With so many individuals and teams now representing Tasmania on the national and international stage and with a potential AFL team on the horizon, we feel we’re just getting started, given we’ve got

more content to talk about than ever before,” Costelloe said.

The Waterboys 500th Show will air on Saturday morning on Hobart’s 7HOFM, Launceston’s LAFM, Scottsdale’s 7SD, Devonport’s 7AD, Burnie’s 7BU and 7XS on the West Coast.
