SEVEN SLAIN IN ‘WORKPLACE DISPUTE’

-

Seven farm workers were killed and one critically injured on Monday in two shootings in Half Moon Bay in northern California.

Police have arrested 67-year-old veteran farm worker Zhao Chunli over what local news described as a “workplace dispute”.

Zhao, who lived in Half Moon Bay, was arrested and was “fully cooperating” with law enforcement, officials said.

The new bloodshed came fewer than 48 hours after a gunman killed 11 people at a dance studio near Los Angeles.

“The sheriff’s office is responding to a shooting incident with multiple victims in the area of (Highway) 92 and the (Half Moon Bay) City limits,” San Mateo County Sheriff said on Twitter. “Suspect is in custody. There is no ongoing threat to the community at this time.”

Dramatic footage from ABC News shows the moment Zhao was taken into custody, in the carpark of the Half Moon sheriff’s office, at 4.40pm local time. His maroon Lexus SUV had been spotted leaving the scene, and was then seen at the sheriff’s office.

A weapon was found in his vehicle and Zhao is believed to have acted alone. Sheriff Christina Corpus of San Mateo County said: “This kind of shooting is horrific.”

Meanwhile, astonishing surveillance images show the moment a brave civilian tackled the man suspected of killing 10 people during Lunar New Year in California. Brandon Tsay, 26, can be seen brawling with the suspect, identified as 72-year-old Huu Can Tran, as the armed male burst into the Lai Lai Ballroom & Studio after earlier opening fire at a nearby dance hall in Monterey Park.

The computer coder told Good Morning America that he thought nothing of hearing the ballroom door closing until it was “followed by the sound of a metal object clinking”.
