Designs revealed for Kingston hub

A DEVELOPMENT application has been lodged for a major project in a booming suburb, and it could be one that keeps more workers in the area if it goes ahead.

The Kingston Park Hub is planned to be located on the corner of Kingston Park at Goshawk Way, at the site of the former Kingston High School.

The application has been lodged by Traders in Purple and the building would form part of the

Kings Quarter development.

The proposal for a mixed use commercial building includes offices, retail and cafes, across four storeys.

Office space would account for 3676sq m of the building, from the ground

level, level one and level two.

On the lower ground level would be 174sq m of retail space with 48sq m of the ground floor used for cafe space. Included in the development would be 127 car spaces, four of which would be Disability Discrimination Act approved, 28 bicycle spaces and seven motorcycle spaces. The building would operate between 6am and midnight Monday to Friday and 8am to 10pm on Sundays and public holidays.

The report says the build of the project could result in less cars travelling along the Southern Outlet to work in Hobart.

“The project aims to attract both large and smaller government and corporate tenants to Kingston Park, both activating the local area and reducing employee travel requirements to Hobart City,” the report said.

The developers also hope to encourage those who would use the building to reduce their vehicle use by providing end-of-trip facilities such as bike parking, showers and lockers, and a bicycle repair centre.

The report also notes the development’s proximity to public transport and walking tracks.

According to the application, the project is designed to complement the surrounding environment.

“The proposed four-storey built form draws its curved form inspiration from the road geometry and topography of the hills and creek lines beyond,” the application said.

The application was lodged on January 5 and representations in support or in opposition to the development can be made until February 8.
