LLOYD SAYS FILLY TIZ ONE TO BEAT
Star apprentice confident he can jag elusive Group 1 in All Aged
Star apprentice Zac Lloyd expects a “perfect” draw and excellent form-lines to thrust Tiz Invincible right into contention for Saturday’s Group 1 $1.5m All Aged Stakes (1400m)
at Royal Randwick.
Lloyd is hunting a maiden Group 1 victory and Tiz Invincible would be a fitting horse to deliver him top-level success on the final day of Sydney’s Autumn Carnival.
The Sydney premiershipwinning apprentice has already piloted Tiz Invincible to a pair of Group 2 victories last spring – in the Furious Stakes and Tea Rose Stakes.
He reconnected with the Ciaron Maher-trained filly for the first time this preparation last start when she worked home from back in the pack to finish midfield in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m).
“I think she is going very well,” Lloyd said. “Barrier one will suit her perfectly so I was very happy to get that because she needs the help early.
“Last start I thought she was good in a different sort of race.
“She was next to Pericles actually and he has come out and run second in a Doncaster.
“They made their runs together which is good form lines so I think she will run a very good race.”
Pericles hit the front in the Doncaster Mile before narrowly going down to a flying Celestial Legend in the timehonoured handicap.
Maher elected to go four weeks between runs instead for Tiz Invincible, who will line up alongside Australian Guineaswinning stablemate Southport
Tycoon ($6).
Lloyd expects Tiz Invincible ($23) will be suited by dropping back 100m in trip in the All
Aged. “I think 1400m is her best trip,” he said.
“I think at the mile, she is a tricky horse to ride. She pulls and doesn’t begin great but over 1400m with a better tempo, I think she will run very well. I’m confident.”
A final field of 14 runners have accepted for the All Aged Stakes, with the Chris Wallertrained Espiona ($3.80) the horse to beat after she was luckless in the TJ Smith Stakes last start.
Annabel Neasham’s Sunshine In Paris ($5.50) and The Everest placegetter Private
Eye ($8.50) are among the leading contenders.
Eight juveniles have entered the Group 1 $1m Champagne Stakes (1600m) on the same card where Sires’ Produce Stakes victor Manaal is the $2.30 favourite. Lloyd has been booked to ride $151 outsider
Tenbury Wells.
